Hyundai Eon was the car that came out as an entry level hatchback from the country’s second largest passenger car maker. The Eon post its launch set off a great competition against the best selling Maruti Suzuki Alto which has literally been the segment leader for quite some time now. Comprising of a very upmarket design that majority of the cars lack in the entry level hatch space, the Eon is the car that’s been developed to excel in practicality on the Indian terrain. Great driving pleasure and high fuel efficiency which have always been the market’s keen factors are well comprised in the Hyundai Eon which further adds to its upper hand in the hatchback segment.
Exterior:
Featuring the ‘Fluidic’ inspired design, the Hyundai Eon car stands distinct with regards to styling and other such eye-catching factors. One of the vital facts in considering a car like Eon is its upmarket styling which sports a hexagonal mouth from the grille section all the way to the lower portion of the front bumper encompassing the centre portion. The clear headlamps and tail lamps which look very futuristic on a hatch is simply unique. The integrated rear spoiler makes the Eon very sporty and the triangular shaped fog lamps make it even more desirable.
Interior & Features:
Speaking on the lines of interiors, the Eon is way too satisfactory for the coin spent as the features and equipment on board makes it look like a premium hatchback. In short, the Hyundai Eon car biggest USP could be its dual tone fabric upholstery and the quality of dash on the cabin. A 2380mm wheelbase ensures there is perfectly enough legroom on board this small car which increases the comfort. Shoulder room and Head Room are also no less in the Eon of Hyundai. As far as convenience features are concerned some of the features in the Eon include Dual tripmeter, Low Fuel Warning, graphic band fuel gauge, Gear Shift Indicator, annually adjustable door mirrors, Digital Clock, Power windows, Headrest, Armrest, USP Port, Alternator Management System and the like. Moreover safety is also considered as a major factor in the Hyundai Eon and some of its key features are the Engine Immobilizer, Internal Rear View Mirror, Central Locking, Keyless Entry, Front Fog Lamps and Driver Airbag.
Engine & Specification:
Engine of Eon is powered by a 0.8L 3 cylinder petrol engine that’s mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, generating a maximum power of 56bhp at 5500rpm and a peak torque resulting in 76.5Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Further the Mcpherson strut with coil spring & anti-roll bar front suspension system, and torsion beam axle with coil spring rear suspensions deliver outstanding ride quality and aids in the overall driving dynamics sprinting to 100kmph in a mere 17 seconds. The top speed of Hyundai Eon is 130kmph and it delivers an ARAI claimed 21.1 kmpl on the highway and around 18kmpl when driven in the city. An LPG variant in Hyundai Eon is also in place if running costs are something that’s of a major concern for you, resulting in higher fuel efficiency and reduced fuel cost.
Verdict:
The Hyundai Eon starts with a price tag of INR 2.77 lakhs for the base variant and goes all the way upto INR 3.8 lakhs for the top end sports variant. Although the Hyundai Eon seems to be a bit heavily priced (on-road price) for an entry level hatchback which will equal a base variant of a proper hatchback, the car is a killer with regards to performance and looks. The car can be availed in a choice of 7 shades which includes Dark Gray Metallic, Coral White, Pristine Blue, Dark Grey Metallic, Sleek Silver, Maharajah Red and Mushroom. The design and sleek body when coupled with performance and reduced fuel consumption is the basic principle behind the Hyundai Eon and is very ideal for someone seeking a compact four wheeler in an upmarket form.
