Jaguar Used Cars- The S-Type as a Used Car

on

Jaguar used cars like the S-type have a stigma attached to them because of all the other problems that have plagued Jaguar models made in the past. The iconic brand, since its inception has dealt with serious issues involving mechanical problems that have not gone away. Most North American consumers when thinking of buying a mid-range luxury vehicle like the Jaguar S-Type, always think of problems. I decided to do a little research on the Jaguar’s S-Type sedan, so will take a quick look at this vehicle as a used car to buy.

Jaguar S-Type used cars:

The S-Type’s interior from 2000 and on is quiet exceptional, this is not a problem Jaguar has, and actually they do this as good as any of their competition. There really isn’t much difference from models from 2000 and on, they all have beautiful high grade leather seats, with wood trim that goes well with their different interior colors. There engine instruments are easy to read and the center console is easy to use. Later models would add a navigation screen to the center console. The S-Type comes standard with AM/FM stereo, air/ heating, CD player and power steering, just to name a few.

There are two engines to choose from for Jaguar used cars like the S-Type. The base package has a V6, 3.0-litre, 240 horsepower engine. The next model up has a V8, 4.0-litre engine, which has 281 horsepower under the hood. Newer models that carried the V6 engine had an upgrade to its horsepower, giving it a total of 235. Also newer models that carried the V8 upgraded its horsepower to 300. They do come in automatic and manual transmissions from 2000 to 2005, after those years it only comes in an automatic transmission.

I could only find one fuel statistic for both engine sizes. The V6 engine has a fuel rating of, 13.3-litre, per 100km for city driving and 8.4-litre, per 100km, for highway driving. The V8 engine has 13.7-litre, per 100km, for city driving and 8.9-litre, per 100km, for highway driving.

Let’s take a look at some pros and cons of the S-Type as a used vehicle to buy.

1- There are mechanical problems with the automatic transmission in later models.
2- Later models with the manual transmission have problems with the clutch locking up.
3- When going to forums on the S-type, people complained about the reliability and that the parts were really expensive.
4- The S-Type also got a horrible rating by a leading online consumer website, which says to “stay away” from these vehicles as a used car to buy.

In my opinion I would not buy this vehicle, it’s a lemon, stay away from it.
