Chevrolet Used Cars- The Equinox

on

General Motors and its Chevrolet brand introduced the Equinox back in 2005 as there new small SUV. Chevrolet used cars like the Equinox was a replacement from the old Chevrolet Tracker (the Tracker was outdated as a small SUV and need to be replaced) which was a complete design change so they could compete against the Ford Motor company who controlled the small SUV market space. The Equinox competes against the likes of the Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 just to name a few. My research will be on the Chevrolet Equinox as a used vehicle to look at.

The Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-size SUV that seats five people (there is no 3rd row seat that is offered). There are two trims that are offered, the LS (the base model) and the LT (the best model). Some of the safety features that come with the Equinox are traction control for the front wheel drive LT model (this is only an option for the front wheel drive LS model) and ABS brakes come standard with all models except the front wheel drive LS . There are some other neat things made available for both models and these are satellite radio, heated front seats, OnStar assistance and leather upholstery as options.

There are several different fuel statistics that I found from the years 2005 to 2008. In 2005 the Equinox had a fuel rating of 12.7-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 8.6-litres, per 100km for highway driving. In 2008 there were two fuel ratings. The 3.4-litre engine had a fuel rating of 12.2-litres, per 100km for city driving and 8.3-litres, per 100km for highway driving (front wheel drive). The 3.6-litre engine had a fuel rating 13-litres, per 100km for city driving and 8.3-litres, per 100km, for highway driving.

There are several different engine sizes over the various years I did research on. In 2005 the Equinox had a V6, 3.4-litre engine and this produced 185 horsepower. In 2008 Chevy added a V6, 3.6-litre engine and this produced 264 horsepower. All models come in either front wheel or all wheel drive option.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of the Chevrolet Equinox as a used vehicle:

1- There are problems with water leaking into the spare tire compartment.
2- A leading online consumer watch dog reports there are problems with squeaky noises coming from the electrical system.
3- It received a good rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for a frontal crash test done to it.

I hope this helps when looking at Chevrolet used cars like the Equinox.
