Mazda maintained its reputation as a specialist in sports vehicles. The new generation roadster Mazda MX-5 is offered on the market in two sets – Sport (with 2.0 l) and Energy (1.8 l). The cost of the most affordable cars – $ 34,900 and the most expensive – $ 39,900. The Sport set of Mazda MX-5 Roadster is equipped with 2.0 liter, 160 horsepower engine, shock absorbers Bilstein, 17-inch wheels, 6-speed manual transmission and leather interior. However, I bet what you are interested in is, is it worth paying extra 5,000 dollars.
The Energy set features are 1.8 liter engine, 16-inch wheels, cloth interior, factory suspension, 5-speed gearbox. Because the wheels are of a smaller radius and higher rubber seems that the clearance is too big and I personally would have squeezed the car a couple of inches to the ground. But inside, in spite of the cloth, the car is perceived just as good, and everyone knows about the shortcomings of the leather chairs in the summer heat.
Those of you with height about 190 cm may stumble upon some problems at the wheel. It is a little tight and the high-speed air turbulence from the frame windshield is persistently swinging the hair on top of the head. You will have to crawl down on the chair. However if you drive the car for a few days you will get used to it and in general this tightness is quite possible to put up with.
The 1.8-liter engine is a derated version of the 2.0-liter. Powertrains are identical: chain drive belt, fuel injection, the same compression ratio. The loss in power is 34 horsepower and the torque 22 Nm. The 1.8-liter version has a maximum of 164 Nm at 4500 rev / min and 186 Nm at 5000 rev for the 2.0-liter. Therefore, in urban driving conditions the difference almost can not be felt. The lightweight roadster is able to accelerate with the smaller engine perfectly. However it is not so good in achieving high speed. But in general, the dynamics of the machine is a pleasant surprise. But, of course, the dynamics is not the highlight of the Mazda MX-5 Roadster. It is created for those who know what is driving a perfectly tuned car. For people who can appreciate the little things like verified working pedals, gearshift lever, steering. Who gets the pleasure is not so much on speed, but on how finely the trajectory of the car wrote in response to a fine game with deceleration and traction. Mazda engineers set up the MX-5 just amazing! Even the most simple version of the roadster discourages any criticism, finding fault in his behavior.
So in conclusion it is worth paying extra 5,000 dollars for the 2.0 liter version, but also with the smaller one you will not feel unsatisfied and Mazda MX-5 Roadster will be a real fun to drive.
