General Motors, the well-known American automakers, are the manufacturers of the SUV, Chevrolet Trax. It was unveiled at the North American International Auto show in April 2013. Chevrolet Trax is an urban SUV, which shares its platform with the Chevrolet Aveo.
Chevrolet Trax has not yet been launched in India. It is expected to be introduced on the Indian roads by April 2014. Trax is a mini SUV that is designed mainly for city navigation.
The Chevrolet Trax is designed in such a way that it gives an elevated vantage point to see all actions on the street. It measures 167.2 inches long and 70.0 inches wide and has a wheelbase of 100.6 inches. Overall, the vehicle looks stylish and impressive.
Chevrolet Trax comes with many features, which will render it a preferable option in the segment. The 4.25 meters length helps in easy parking, especially in tighter parking conditions. The best thing about the car is that though it looks small from outside, it has comfortable and roomy interiors. It also offers large storage places inside and provides comfortable seating for 5 passengers.Wider view is possible as the seats are designed at a higher platform. While travelling with more luggage the flexible 60/40 flip and fold rear seat and fold flat front passenger seats allows to create a larger cargo space of about 1371 liters.
Chevrolet Trax will be offered in two petrol engine options – the 1.4-litre turbocharged with 138 bhp and the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated mill with 130 bhp. There will be a diesel variant featuring a diesel engine with 1.7-litre with 128bhp.
The Chevrolet Trax offers a slew of entertainment facilities. It comes with a CD player, mp3 playback and Bluetooth audio streaming facilities. It also has My link radio infotainment system. The standard Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity allows making and receiving calls using voice commands. Trax is the first vehicle in its class to integrate the Apple Siri Eyes Free technology. It helps to complete a series of hands free tasks like composing texts and email messages and storing contacts on Smartphone using voice commands.
It comes with good safety features like front Disk, Rear Disk brakes, two Airbags, parking sensors, fog lamp, ABS, EBD and three rear seat belts and the like. Trax, which will come with high ground clearance and monocoque chassis, is considered to be a good option for the Indian roads. However, it will face tough competition from its competitors like the Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra Quanto.
Overall, we can say Trax is a fantastic compact SUV, which has been engineered for the city, and offers great passenger comfort and flexible cargo capacity.
