Cruise is a compact car with a transverse engine and front wheel drive, produced by the American auto giant General Motors, under the brand name, Chevrolet. Globally, Cruze was introduced in 2008 and it made its entry into India in the year 2009. Initially, only two variants were available in the Indian market – a 1.3 or 1.5l engine mated with a five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic transmission.
Cruze has an interesting history – it was developed on the platform of Suzuki Ignis and it debuted as €ChevroletYGM1 concept car’ at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show. However, in spite of the Chevrolet brand name, the YGM1 was developed by the Australian arm of General Motors, Holden. The styling and engineering for Cruze was done by Holden.
Apart from this, they gave the car the name, Cruze. The production version of Chevrolet Cruze was unveiled in 2001 and it was sold under the name Holden Cruze in Australia from 2002 through 2006.
Currently, the Cruze is produced in various locations like Elizabeth (Australia), So Paulo (Brazil), Shenyang and Liaoning (China), Halol (India), Ust-Kamenogorsk (Kazakhstan), Saint Petersburg (Russia), Gunsan, Jeonbuk (South Korea), Rayong (Thailand), Ohio (US) and Hanoi (Vietnam).
