Honda Civic is yet another car from the stables of the Japanese automobile company, Honda. The Civic is their classic old car which made its global appearance in 1972. Quite a few generations of this vehicle came out with specific enhancements; the latest Civic being the ninth generation. These successive improvements, year after year, have made Honda Civic a passenger friendly car guaranteeing safety, economy, durability, comfort and style.
Honda is currently not selling the Civic in Indian markets, but it may soon launch the diesel version of the car later this year, as India has a great market for diesel cars.
Honda Civic has been structured in a flawless aerodynamic design. The chrome plated front grille with broad headlights and the body coloured bumper with fog lamps give a sporty look to the sedan. The latest variant has electric powered light steering which ensures better control at high speeds. The interiors are roomy and made of high quality materials. The sedan can comfortably accommodate five passengers. The long wheelbase, wide track, low height and the super suspension makes the ride quality decent and quite absorbent. It is loaded with many safety and luxury features and has a remarkable boot space of 477 litres.
The Honda Civic sedan has been set with a 1.8-litre 1799cc i-VTEC (intelligent-Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) 4-cylinder engine with both manual and automatic transmission options. It also has a programmable electronic fuel injection technology powering its fuel supply system which helps in enhancing the engine performance with better fuel efficiency. It generates a maximum power of 130 bhp at 6300 rpm and a maximum torque of 171.6 Nm at 4300 rpm. The manual transmission variant gives a mileage of approximately 10.8 kmpl on the city roads, while the mileage noticeably increases to 14.8 kmpl on the highways. The automatic variant offers a mileage of 8.9 kmpl to 13.9 kmpl.
The Honda Civic is offered as either a coupe or compact sedan; the sedan is more practical whereas the coupe is sportier. The Civic has included hatchback and wagon styles as well. It comes in many variants like the Civic SMT, EX, VMT and VAT and in Crystal Black Pearl, Polished Metal Metallic, Tafeta White, Habanero Red and Alabaster Silver Metallic colours. It is priced in the range of Rs. 12 lakhs to Rs. 15 lakhs.
The new Civic will have everything that Honda is known for – low maintenance, smooth mechanics and effective after sales service. The Civic, when launched, will go up against the likes of the new Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze, Audi A3, Renault Scala and Volkswagen Jetta.
