Hyundai’s latest model, the ix35, bagged Car of the Year 2013 at honestjohn. It seems appropriate then, to explore the car’s features and highlights and to find out what makes it quite so popular.
Looks
The Hyundai ix35 is a crossover with a stylish edge. Shaped like a fluidic sculpture and fitted with projection headlights, the car makes quite an impression.
Heated Seats
A standard feature of the ix35 is heated seats in the front and back of the car. These are great for keeping all the family bottoms warm during icy winters.
Bluetooth
Another standard feature of this model is Bluetooth®. The device has voice recognition and connects to your phone so you can make and take calls with safety and ease while driving. Or, you can use it to stream tunes from your Bluetooth handset, wirelessly.
Media
This car has lots to offer in the technology department. Premium models have an advanced satellite navigation system installed, all accessed via a touch screen. The ix35 is available with a petrol or diesel engine. The petrol engine ranks at a 1.6 litre and delivers 136PS whereas there are three types of diesel engine available: a 1.7 litre with 115 PS, a 2.0 litre with 135PS and a 2.0 183PS. The most powerful option also includes a six speed automatic transmission.
2WD or 4WD
Depending on the engine, the Hyundai ix35 can be purchased as a two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The 2.0 litre diesel engine also automatically decides whether the 4WD system is required, only reverting to 4WD in difficult driving conditions.
Efficient
The 1.6 GDi petrol engine is available with the added extra of a Stop & Go (ISG) system. This feature switches the engine on and off with ease so fuel can be saved when the vehicle is at a standstillat lights or in traffic.
Safety
Hyundai have not held back on safety with this model. The car has a 5* NCAP safety score (the highest score) and this is down to a combination of important features. Anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, an electronic stability programme and reversing systems are all attributes that help the driver to keep the car under control. Additionally, the vehicle is fitted with six airbags, child seat anchors and a airbag deactivation option for the front seat. There’s also a ‘follow-me-home’ function fitted in the lights, automatically illuminating your way in a dark car park or to your front door.
Ease
This car has the technology to help you drive up and down hills with ease. There is a Hill-start Assist feature installed to stop the vehicle rolling back as the driver pulls away on hills. Additionally, there is downhill brake control in the 4WD models. When activated, the car will descend at a controlled pace, relieving the driver of having to hold down the brake. This feature is particularly effective for off-road driving.
