Chevrolet Spin – A Much Awaited Launch

on

Chevrolet Spin is the latest vehicle produced by one of the foremost global car manufacturing companies – Chevrolet, which comes under the General Motors car brand. This sporty and stylish seven seater multi purpose vehicle will surely add a crown to the company’s glory.
While it has been running successfully in Brazil since June 2012, it may take a few more months to start off its maiden drive in India.

The new Chevrolet Spin would come in two variants which can accommodate either five or seven adults. Both the variants will have a 1.8 litre four cylinder economical Flex engine that would burn out 108 bhp of power when run on ethanol and about 106 bhp of power when run on gasoline. The engine is further put up with two transmission types, one being a five speed manual transmission and the other being a six speed automatic transmission. The seven-seater Spin will have a boot capacity of 162 litres and this will be increased to 710 litres in the five seater model.

The five seater variant (LT) will have features like air conditioning system with heater, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, dual airbags, power steering, height adjustable driver’s seat and high quality fabric upholstery. Apart from these features, the high end seven seater (LTZ) has an additional third row for the passengers, parking sensors, controls mounted on the steering wheel, a radio with a CD player, MP3 and Bluetooth capability, roof racks and an on-board computer.

Chevrolet Spin is 4.36 m long, 1.74 m wide and 1.66 m tall. The dual cockpit dashboard layout with the typical grille design, large front bumper, broad headlamps, wide rear door, slanting windshields, hefty alloy wheels, high roofline with railings inside, round knobs and strong adjustable steering and the usage of dual tone dark colours make Spin all the more elegant and appealing. This new Chevrolet Spin also has the bow tie logo on the front end of the car, which has more or less become a signature of the Chevrolet cars.

One will have to wait and see whether Spin can compete with the much popular Maruti Ertiga or the bigger ones like Toyota Qualis or Innova and the Mahindra Xylo. The Spin may have to strip down some of the features to make it simpler and economical so that it can be priced in the lower budget segment of Rs. 8 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs, which is competitive for Indian markets.

Moreover Chevrolet will have to come up with a diesel engine to stay in the Indian markets. Currently the Spin is only launched with a petrol engine.
