The Citroen C4 had a facelift done in 2011 and it is one of the most comfortable mid-sized family cars money can buy. However, the drive is not as much fun as the Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf. The cabin is useful but the big boot eats up the rear seat space. Citroen has recently added the micro hybrid e-HDI diesel engine to its range. It comes mated with an automatic gearbox and gives a combined mileage of 74mpg. The facelift done to it in 2011 has made Citroen C4 a head turner.
The bodywork is sharply and distinctively styled which makes it one of the good-looking family cars money can buy. The interior is sublime too. The steering wheel has lots of buttons and the top-spec Exclusive versions have massage front seats. It’s not all good inside as the rear seats feel cramped and it doesn’t give a luxurious feel as compared to the Ford Focus. The suspension is soft which makes for a comfortable ride but on a zig zag road it is not fun to drive. The steering is not agile enough. C4 has an unmatched performance on the motorway.
There is no wind noise inside the cabin and the diesel engine runs effortlessly and silently. The fastest C4 diesel engine you can buy is a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with 0-62mph timing of 8.7 seconds. The top of the range 2.0-litre diesel is slower but it gives excellent fuel economy. The Citroen C4 was awarded a full five-star in Euro NCAP crash safety tests. It is a safe car with six airbags as standard. C4 is also equipped with eTouch service, which lets you call and be located by emergency services if you ever break down or have an accident.
The Citroen C4 has a 408 litre boot making it one of the roomiest in its class. However, the car’s design does make it hard to load things. The cabin has lots of storage space and is well figured out. If you go for the new e-HDI engine, it comes with an automatic gearbox. Citroens are very bad when it comes to depreciation so make sure to get a discount when buying a new one. The star of the lineup is the e-HDI engine which gives fuel economy of 74mpg. The micro hybrid engine has stop and start technology to save fuel when it is still. Citroen C4 is a competitively priced family car.
