Do you know how the line of Mitsubishi Lancers came about? There are at least ten generations available in the market. This attractive four-door sedan is large enough to be a passenger vehicle. Even though the line was originally made for the foreign markets, the sudden demand for the vehicle quickly made it possible for the line to be offered in the United States. Two components that set the line of Mitsubishi Lancers apart from any other passenger sedan are the turbo engine and AWD that power the vehicles.
Back in 1992, Mitsubishi Lancers were being manufactured for sport. They were being used in racing championships like the world rally race. It was made with two different trims and they were the RS and the GSR. The RS was originally stripped of many of the standard luxuries that are currently on the newer models in an effort to make the car much faster and lighter. When it was first introduced to the public, it sold a little over five thousand vehicles in the time period from 1992 to 1993.
The next generation of Lancers was manufactured from 1994 to 1995. Many of the improvements included a better suspension system. To help the vehicle become more reliable on the road, the size of the sway bars and the spoiler were increased. It was still being offered in the RS and the GSR trims along with the turbo charged engine. From the end of 1995 until present day, a more muscular and aggressive body style was introduced. This new body style made it possible for air to circulate more efficiently through the internal mechanisms under the hood. The radiator, brake vents and intercoolers were redesigned for maximum airflow.
In 1996, this line had some revolutionary changes made that were still almost unheard of at the time. The engine and the transaxle were flipped by 180 degrees to help better distribute the weight of those components more evenly. The engine’s power capacity was increased to deliver up to 276 horsepower. With the arrival of the fifth generation, more attention was paid to the interior. Besides wanting to provide drivers with the most powerful and fastest vehicle possible, Mitsubishi wanted to increase the level of comfort on the inside. The braking system was tweaked to improve response and performance. And once again, the engine was enhanced to deliver even more power.
As you can see, Mitsubishi Lancers had very humble beginnings. Improvements are still being made on a rolling basis. With each new generation, the manufacturers pay attention to the shortcomings of the previous generations and make changes and enhancements using state of the art technology to improve the reliability, safety and durability of the line. With each new generation, you can expect to see some revolutionary enhancements on an already outstanding vehicle. No matter how old or new your vehicle is, Mitsubishi Lancers have been made with exceptionally high standards throughout the course of their evolution.
