The Toyota Corolla Axio is the tenth-generation release for Toyota’s Corolla line. First released in 2006, its name was derived from the Greek word for €things with value€. This tenth-generation Corolla has a wagon counterpart called the Toyota Fielder, and both were released primarily for the Japanese domestic market. The car is a combination of relaxed comfort, cutting edge technology, and classic style.
Advanced equipment
The Axio boasts of advanced features that exceed its contemporaries in the compact class. All Axio models are equipped with a rearview monitor that helps the driver when parking. Buyers can also opt to have an advanced Intelligent Parking System installed, which supports steering when parallel parking and backing into a parking space. This equipment sets the target position by making use of ultrasonic sensors on the front of the vehicle which detect other vehicles and estimate the dimensions of the parking space.
The Axio’s Smart Entry and Start System makes use of a Smart Key for locking and unlocking doors. With just the push of a button, the engine will start. Its hard disc drive navigation system is composed of a 30GB HDD, a 6.5-inch wide display screen in addition to its advanced navigation utilities.
Safety system
The Toyota Corolla Axio’s safety features include a Pre-crash Safety System. The high-tech gear comprises of Pre-crash Seatbelts and a Pre-crash Brake Assist System. A millimeter-wave radar detects collision risks and immediately sends signals: one to the seatbelts to provide better restraint for passengers, and another to the brake system to automatically decelerate the vehicle in order to reduce collision speed, thereby lessening the damage caused by collision. In addition, a Radar Cruise Control system automatically senses and monitors the speed of the vehicle in front of the Axio and also checks the lane to set a fixed distance between the vehicles.
Under the hood
It’s good to know that the Axio, along with the new Corolla models, now features a new engine and Super CVT-i transmission. The new 1.8-liter engine optimizes both intake and exhaust to achieve smooth and powerful acceleration while offering fuel efficiency and environmental performance in true Toyota fashion. The continuous variable transmission allows for a smooth journey and linear acceleration without the jolting caused by shifting gears. The CVT also contributes to improved fuel efficiency.
Green technology
Because of the CVT transmission and new, more fuel-efficient engine, the Toyota Corolla Axio’s emission level is way below the 2005 standard set by Japan€”75% less, in fact. The car also has a fuel efficiency that is greater than the 2010 standard; ten percent greater than the average. It did so well in the tests that it qualified for incentives under Japan’s Green Taxation System. Toyota also added an Eco Drive indicator to the Axio, which lights up when the driver performs environmentally-considerate driving€”that is, when the car is operated in such a way that fuel efficiency is maximized.
The Toyota Corolla Axio is one of the most environmentally-friendly fuel-powered cars made by Toyota. However, we can expect a lot of Axios in the used-car market as consumers shift to newer and more green car models such as the hybrid Toyota Prius.
