The Chevrolet Impala is one of the best selling full-size sedan’s that the General Motor’s Corporation has in its fleet of vehicles. Chevrolet used cars like an Impala are much cheaper than a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry and have more cabin space to move around in. What makes this vehicle a consistent top ten seller year after year is its affordability and its simple exterior and interior styling. The Impala is in a very competitive segment of the auto industry and competes with vehicles like the Ford Taurus, Toyota Avalon and the Chrysler 300 which offer more toys in there models. My research will be on the Chevrolet Impala as a used vehicle to look at.
The Impala from 2002 to 2009 used a very simple and basic design for its inside interior. Everything from the speedometer, engine systems to using the AC and radio controls are easy to read and use. The Impala as you would guess doesn’t use expensive materials for its interior but rather uses a moulded plastic for its fitting panels and a wood trim that looks very cheap. There is also an option for a sixth seat by removing the center console and replacing it with a front bench seat with a third seat belt.
There are different fuel statistics for the various engines the Impala has to offer. In 2002 the 3.4-litre engine had a fuel rating of 11-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 6.7-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. The 3.8-litre engine had a fuel rating of 12.6-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 7.9-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. The SS supercharged had a fuel rating of 13.4-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 13.4-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. In 2007 the SS supercharged had a fuel rating 12.9-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 11.9-litres, per 100km, for highway driving.
There are several different engine sizes from the years 2002 to 2009 that the Chevrolet Impala has to offer. In 2002 the Chevrolet Impala offer two different engines, the 3.4- litre and 3.8-litre motor, these are both powered by a V6 engine. In 2007 they offered two new engine types, the 3.5-litre and 3.9-litre engine and from all accounts General Motors fixed the problems that addressed previous older engines in older models.
Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of the Chevrolet Impala as a used vehicle:
1- There are problems with the speedometer and tachometer instruments acting up.
2- There are problems with brake rotors warping.
3- There are problems with the brake pads wearing down prematurely.
4- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a five star rating for driver and front passenger protection when a crash test was done to it.
I hope this helps when looking at Chevrolet used cars like the Impala.
