Ford Mondeo – Expecting a Good Comeback

on

The Ford Mondeo, developed by Ford Motor Company Limited, was first globally launched in 1992 and it has now reached its fifth generation. Ford Mondeo made its appearance in India in 2002 but then failed to make its mark here. Ford has now revamped the car in all aspects as per Indian requirements and will be soon re-launching the all-new sedan. It is even speculated that the car will be manufactured within the country itself.

The upcoming Ford Mondeo is of course more stylish, larger and spacious than its earlier versions. Ford cars are known for its strongly built beautiful bodies and powerful engines, and Mondeo adheres to these qualities perfectly. It would probably be one of the best-looking cars in this segment with its front grille connected to fog light enclosures, well-designed bonnet, muscular wheel arches, angular headlamps and flattened tail lamps.

The luxurious and spacious interiors can easily accommodate five people. The well-cushioned leather seats offer enough support and space at the right places and are also power adjustable. It has many exciting features like the LED interior lighting, integrated door release mechanisms, rake and tilt adjustable steering, a fuel computer, AC with a heater and an audio player that has a CD and MP3 player, connectivity for Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in.

Anti lock braking system with Electronic brake force distribution, front and side airbags, engine immobilizer, Active grille shutter system, Electronic stability program with Traction control and Emergency brake assist system are some important safety features. Touch screen navigation system, Rear view camera, Adaptive cruise control, Blind spot information system, Lane departure warning, Hill start assist, and front and rear parking distance sensors are some of the comfort features.

The new Mondeo has the option of 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines, as well as the next generation 2.0 liter Duratorq TDCi and 2.0 liter Duratec diesel engines. Direct injection and variable valve timing that will deliver outstanding performance boost the petrol engines. The diesel engines promise high performance along with reduced fuel consumption. The engine may be mated with either an automatic or a manual six-speed transmission gearbox. The car has a sub- frame mounted suspension, which helps in delivering a smooth and quiet ride.

Ford Mondeo may fall in the price range of Rs. 13 to Rs 17 lakh. Honda Accord, VW Passat, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry seem to be its potential rivals. The general downside of Ford cars is their high maintenance cost and poor after sales service. If it can overcome these shortcomings, then Ford Mondeo can surely rise successfully in the Indian markets against the likes of other popular luxury cars in this segment.
