General Motors India, the Indian arm of the US-based General Motors, will launch Chevrolet Spark 800 in the Indian market towards the middle of this year. There is more demand for small and low price cars in the Indian market; hence, General Motors India decided to launch this car.
After the withdrawal of Maruti 800 from the Indian car market, the Alto is now the major selling 800 cc car in India, and has made a record sale of more than 30,000 cars. Comparing this number with Chevrolet’s old Spark 1.0 L model, General Motors decided to fight for space with Alto. In addition to Alto, Chevrolet Spark 800 will also compete with Hyundai’s 800 cc car that was launched in the year 2011 and the Tata Nano.
The new Spark 800 is a trimmed-down version of the Chevrolet Spark hatchback. The overall shape and design of the car is almost same as the old model. At first, the car will be available only in petrol version. It is expected that after a few months, CNG and LPG versions will also be launched.
The new Spark is designed with latest technologies and offers large space. It has torsion beam suspension and shock absorbers with trailing arms, which will hold the car stable even on toughest roads. It offers stress-free drive with great safety features.
The Spark 800 is powered by 795 cc, 3-cylinder engine, which is expected to deliver a peak power of 49 Bhp along with a peak torque of 68.6 NM at the rate of 4600 RPM. It combines with a five-speed manual transmission and has Front Ventilated and Rear Disk Brakes.
It will offer high fuel efficiency with lower emission level. The engine of the car is equipped with many technical features like sequential multi point fuel injection, dual distributor less ignition system, motorised throttle intake system and advanced optical sensors. To make the car economical, the company will be dropping some of the luxury and comfort features. The steel body of the car is durable and provides an extra safety to the passengers.
The different variants of the New 800 cc Spark will further hold Chevrolet’s position strongly in the Indian market and improve its market share through selling more volumes. Spark 800 is the largest sold vehicle of Chevrolet in India. It will definitely help the automaker to strengthen its market share in the small segment of Indian car industry.
What works in favor of the New Spark is that it is considered as a good alternative to Alto. Moreover, it has received many good reviews from leading automobile experts, thereby boosting customer confidence.
