Considered to be a model featuring in the upper bracket of Peugeot’s current line-up, the 508 RXH was unveiled to the world back in 2011 – at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then it has gone on sale to the general public.
Featuring an impressive body design and a luxurious interior, the 508 RXH promised a great deal. But what should those considering whether to buy a 508 RXH expect from it?
Despite being an all-terrain estate car, as we previously touched upon, it boasts a number of incredibly stylish design features. Instead of featuring just the rugged elements typically found on an all-terrain vehicle (plastic trim, large alloy wheels), this particular Peugeot model also blends in elements found on standard estate cars (long curved edges etc.).
This makes the car a particularly attractive option for, say, a driver with a family; they get the satisfaction of driving around in a car that looks the part, but at the same time doesn’t sacrifice the crucial elements needed to make it a viable option.
The fantastic design features on the 508 RXH aren’t only limited to the exterior either. Designed to create a sense of classiness, drivers can opt for one of five types of leather – each encapsulating a huge amount of luxury.
Whilst the design features are great, most people will be more eager to know how the Peugeot 508 RXH performs.
As a hybrid model, the 508 RXH features a four-cylinder diesel engine – capable of producing 163bhp (brake horsepower) – and a smaller electric motor – capable of producing 37bhp (brake horsepower). The diesel engine is responsible for powering the 508 RXH’s front wheels, whilst the electric motor powers the rear wheels.
It drives superbly, offering a great driving experience. Drivers can utilise the all-electric mode – powered, as you would probably assume, solely by the electric motor – and enjoy the minimal amount of noise produced. However, when tough ground is encountered, it is easy to switch the Peugeot 508 RXH into four-wheel drive mode. When in four-wheel drive mode, this vehicle can easily navigate the steep, bumpy stretches of country road located throughout the United Kingdom.
Those looking to drive the 508 RXH in electric-only mode on longer journeys are likely to be disappointed though. It simply isn’t a viable option. It automatically uses the diesel engine, but at lower speeds, it will switch to the electric motor, allowing fuel to be saved and emissions to be lowered.
As an environmentally-friendly and economically-viable option, this Peugeot model is fantastic. With a fuel efficiency rate of 68.9mpg (miles per gallon) and an emissions rate of 107g/km (grams of CO2 per kilometre), it’s certainly the right car to have if you want to limit the negative impact you have on the environment.
When compared to similar models produced by rival manufacturers – such as Audi and BMW – this Peugeot model more than holds its own. Offering a huge amount of versatility – it’s just as ideal for a small family as it is for a businessman – the Peugeot 508 RXH doesn’t disappoint.
