Honda unveiled the compact urban SUV, Honda Vezel, in the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013. The launch in India is delayed due to production capacity constraints and so the Indian buyers will have to wait another two years. Though inspired from Honda CRV, Honda Vezel can boast of certain unique features in its design. Clever engineering on the part of Honda help makes their vehicles an instant success in any market. The anticipated pricing of the SUV, which falls between Rupees 10 and 15 lakhs, will make it a sure shot hit in India.
The Japanese motor brand, Honda, is always liked by the automobile lovers for the exquisite exteriors and impeccable engine performance. The petrol variant of this SUV is powered by the same engine as that of Honda’s mid-sized sedan, City, which generates a maximum power of 116.3 bhp at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 146 Nm at 4800 rpm. The diesel variant is powered by the same engine as that of Honda’s another sedan, Amaze, which generates a maximum power of 98.6 bhp at 3600 rpm and a maximum torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. This highly efficient diesel engine has a high fuel efficiency of about 25.8 kmpl.
The SUV is expected to be launched in both manual and automatic transmission. The spacious interior is comfortable and luxurious with many prominent and popular features. The broad seats make it all the more comfortable for the passengers. The additional features in higher versions may include rear parking camera, cruise control and steering mounted audio controls.
The main competition comes from Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Ford Eco Sport, all of which dominate the current Indian market in this segment of vehicles. The pricing of this much awaited SUV for the Indian market is yet another factor that decides it fate here. Honda’s urban SUV concept is actualised in Honda Vezel.
