Hyundai Xcent – Heating Up the Competition in the Sedan Segment

on

Of late, compact Sedans seem to enjoy great popularity in the Indian market. There could be no other reason for the sudden influx of sedans in the Indian car market, which has seen the launch of many compact sedans like the Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and the Tata Zest. The Korean carmaker, Hyundai too wants a share of this meaty pie and hence has introduced a compact sedan named Xcent in the Indian market quite recently.

In an overcrowded market like India, it is not easy to ward off competition from seasoned players and industry leaders like Maruti Suzuki and Honda. However, Hyundai, who have had a successful career so far in the Indian auto industry have decided to join the fray by introducing the Xcent. Looking to beat the competition, this sub-4 meter sedan has been aggressively priced. The base petrol model of Xcent comes for a cost of 4.66 lakh rupees, which is way below the 4.85 lakh and 5.04 lakh rupee cost of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze respectively. Likewise, the diesel variant of the Hyundai Xcent comes cheaper than the corresponding diesel variants of Maruti and Honda.

The Xcent is powered by the 1.2-litre Kappa engine, which is a good performer, generating a power of 82 bhp. The engine is known to do well in city traffic as well as on highways. The Hyundai Xcent claims a mileage of 19.1 kmpl for the petrol variant, while for the diesel it is at 24.4 kmpl.

When it comes to the looks and exteriors, Hyundai Xcent is a stylish beast. It looks proportionate and balanced, and offers a dynamic feel. The features offered by the Xcent, as the case with all Hyundai cars, is excellent. The mirrors of the Xcent are electronically adjustable and they automatically fold in or out when the car is locked or unlocked. The 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the top-end variant give the car a premium feel. The car is offered in six colour schemes.

The interiors of the Xcent are spacious and loaded with features. It offers a rear-parking camera on the mirror, automatic climate control and integrated music system among others as standard.

Xcent comes in three variants – base, S and SX. Dual front airbags are available in the top-end model and optional ABS is offered in both S and SX variants.

Though Hyundai has packed the car with features and priced the sedan aggressively, it will not be an easy task to take on the industry leaders – Maruti and Honda. However, Xcent has everything needed for a successful career, which, backed by the experience of Hyundai, will help it to become a winner.
