BMW used cars like the X5 was a complete new venture that the automaker had never taken before. BMW is known for its line of luxury sedans and sporty coupes and so when BMW decided to get into the Sport Utility segment of the market place, some observers were surprised. In many ways they had no choice, there biggest rival Mercedes was already producing such vehicles. You see many of these vehicles on the road today, so I decided to look at the BMW X5 as a used vehicle to buy.
BMW X5 used cars:
Even thou this suv look’s small in size, I found them to be spacious with good leg room. The interior without saying is pretty good and comfortable. The X5 comes with high end leather seats that are very comfortable to sit in. It has wood trim on the sides, dashboard and center console, the speedometer and engine systems are easy to read and the center console is your typical BMW layout, which is easy to use as well. The BMW X5 comes standard with, power steering, power windows, ABS brakes, AM/FM radio, heating/air and of course a CD player.
The BMW X5 has various different engine sizes and transmissions, so I have different fuel statistics for each. The six cylinder automatic transmission has a fuel rating of, 15-litre, per 100km, for city driving and 11-litre, per 100km, for highway driving. The six cylinder manual transmission has a fuel rating of 16-litre, per 100 km, for city driving and 10.5-litre, per 100km, for highway driving. The 4.8is automatic transmission has a fuel rating of 14.7-litre, per 100km, for city driving and 10.1-litre, per 100km, for highway driving.
BMW used cars like the X5 have different engine sizes through the years, in 2000 it started out with a V8, 4.4-litre engine, which had 282 horsepower. In 2002 they developed a sports package for the X5(4.6is), this had a V8, 4.6-litre engine, which had 340 horsepower. In 2004 the base model package increased the horsepower to 315, but kept the same 4.4-litre engine. Then in 2005 the X5-4.8is was born, this had a V8, 4.8-litre engine, which had 355 horsepower under the roof.
Let’s look at some facts about the BMW X5 as a used car:
1- A BMW X5 web forum I went to suggested there are problems with the air conditioning, radiator and water pumps, if it has high kilometres to them.
2- There are issues with the electrical system that controls the doors, windows, mirrors and the dashboard computer.
3- It was giving a five star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for frontal crash tests done to it.
4- I could not find any major problems with its engine.
I hope this helps if your thinking about buying BMW used cars like the X5.
