Ford’s new EcoBoost turbo petrol engines have sprinted the image of the brand to an all new level as it comes with an impeccable combination of excellent performance and even better fuel economy, however the tail pipe emissions have been retained. The American auto maker have been gathering positive response from across the globe for its new invention, the EcoBoost engine. Ford’s latest EcoBoost 1.0 litre, three cylinder petrol engine that will be affixed in the upcoming compact SUV, Ford EcoSport has been the talk of the town of late. This 1.0 litre engine pumps out a maximum power of 120 Bhp along with a peak torque of 170 Nm, an overboost function pushes the torque numbers to 200 Nm.
The powertrain is very fuel economic and has the capability to return an excellent mileage of 19 kmpl, which is very good for the amount of power and torque it engenders. This new 1.0 litre EcoBoost trubo petrol engine has also received three accolades so far which includes the best new engine award, best sub-1 litre engine award and last but not the least best overall engine award. This motor is at present being used on the 2012 Ford Focus hatchback and it will also be seen in the upcoming new car, 2013 Ford EcoSport compact SUV. Ford EcoSport SUV will also be launched in the Indian car market, Ford Ecosport Price in India is likely to fall in the range of Rs 9 lakh which is quite competitive considering the features it will offer. India will soon see a slew of compact SUV launches out of which EcoSport is one, Maruti Suzuki India too is gearing up to launch Maruti XA Alpha SUV which will also carry a very affordable price tag. The market dynamics are changing very rapidly specially in the domestic market, where customers all of a sudden have started showing interest in utility vehicles like sports utility vehicle and multi utility vehicles. Since last few years, there has been a surge in customers looking for SUVs and MPVS, proving it right is the jump in accrued sales of SUVs and MPVs in India last year which was more than the previous yearâEUR(TM)s sales.
It seems that every car maker wants to try its hands in the compact SUV segment with so many compact SUVs coming in the Indian car market. Renault too will be launching a compact SUV christened Renault Duster which will target the mass segment. Renault until now has targeted the premium segment with its cars which includes one hatchback, one crossover and one sedan. But all these are placed in the luxury division of their respective segments. With Duster Renault wants to crack the mass segment. Same is the case with Ford too, EcoSport will offer a lot of style, good fuel economy, good features and will apparently come with a very lucrative price tag just like its small sibling Figo which also is up for an upgrade. However there is still time for Ford EcoSport launch in India, we just hope that the American car maker could replicate Ford Figo’s success in India with this new compact SUV.
