Honda used cars like the Civic are still widely popular with the North American consumer and with every different Honda generation, more and more people just seem to be drawn to them. The main reason for the Honda Civic being so popular as a use vehicle, is because Honda has made this vehicle so reliable that people want them as a used car. The “Consumer Report” website year after year, gives this vehicle a top rating for a used car to buy. When researching the Honda Civic as a used vehicle to buy, I decided to research on the years from 2005 to 2010.
Honda Civic used cars:
The Civic comes in a two door or four door sedan, it has a nice look to it and year after year Honda is always adding some type of new design to its interior. The popular sedan comes standard with AM/FM stereo, power steering, heating/air and CD player. I all most look at this sedan as a compact vehicle, it’s suppose to fit five people comfortably but really it’s made to seat four. It handles well and there very comfortable to drive in the city or on the highway.
There are various engine sizes for the different Civic models. The base model from 2006 and up, comes with a 1.8-litre, four cylinder engine that has 140 horsepower under the hood. The Honda Civic Si comes with a 2.0-litre, 197 horsepower engine. The hybrid version comes with a 1.3-litre engine, which also has an electric motor that produces 110 horsepower. The Civic comes standard with a five speed manual transmission or a six speed manual transmission depending on the model.
I found various fuel statistics for the different Civic models. The base model had a 7.8-litre, per 100km, for city driving and 5.7-litre, per 100km for highway driving. The Civic Si had a fuel rating of 10.2-litre, per 100km, for city driving and 6.8-litre, per 100km, for highway driving. The Hybrid version got a fuel rating of 4.7-litre, per 100km, for city driving and 4.3-litre, per 100km, for highway driving. As you can see the hybrid is great on gas.
Let’s look at some pros and cons on the Honda Civic as a used vehicle to buy:
1- The Honda Civic and the Civic Si were both given a good rating as a used car to buy, by a top leading consumer website.
2- There are problems with the electric motor on the hybrid.
3- There are problems with the Honda Civic Si’s transmission; it can cause the third gear to pop out sometimes.
Over all the Civic is a well built car, and I would recommend buying either the base model or the Honda Civic Si as a used vehicle.
