Kia Sedona received a minor facelift for 2011 but the most important change was that of the replacement of the old 2,8 Liter engine with a new 2,5 Liter V6 engine. The new engine produces 271 hp @ 6300rpm and 248 pound feet of torque @ 4500rpm which is noticeably better than last years model that although it was sporting a bigger engine it only had a horsepower of 250. Additionally the new engine along with a new 6 speed automatic transmission has a better EPA estimated fuel economy at 18city/25highway/21combined.
The 2011 Sedona is available in two trims, the base LX and the EX. Both are equipped with the same engine and transmission that we mentioned above. The LX comes with 16″ steel wheels, audio system with 6 speakers, auxiliary MP3 audio input, Bluetooth wireless data link, front and rear air conditioning, cruise control and third row seating.
The EX trim has 17″ tires with alloy wheels, chrome door handles and side moldings, auto light control system and front fog lights. Additionally, it comes equipped with the same audio system as the LX but there are two optional upgrades to an 8 or 10 speaker system. Some other features and gadgetry include a trip computer with compass, auto dimming rear view mirror with homelink and rear camera display, dual power sliding doors and power tailgate, 6 way power driver’s seat and wood grain accent.
Kia Sedona hasn’t be tested yet with the latest more strenuous crash tests. Some of the standard safety features include front seat sided mounted airbags, full length side curtain airbags, front active headrests, 4 wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist System (BAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS) and a tire pressure monitor system. All of these feature come standard with both the LX and the EX trim.
The starting MSRP for the LX model is $24,595 and for the EX trim $29,195. Kia offers a generous 5year/60,000 miles warranty and 10year / 100,000 miles warranty for the powertrain which most reviewers cite as one of Sedona’s main advantages. The most common Con that most reviewers note is some subpar meterials used in the interior of the Sedona. However most agree that it offers great value for money and US News Car Rankings and Reviews has awarded it the Best Car for the Money award for 2011. Overall, it is a car that will cover the needs of big families without breaking the bank.
