Audi RS3

Audi will soon replace the current A3 with a new version, but before that they will release its ultimate hot hatch in the form of the Audi RS3. Finally Audi has taken the covers off the RS3 and revealed it will be turbocharged and fitted with Audi famous Quattro system but with added practicality of a five-door Sportback body. Behind the front air intakes that dominate the RS3 lies the 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol turbo engine from the Audi TT RS which produces a massive 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. The RS3 also features a seven speed S tronic double clutch gearbox, complete with paddles on the steering wheel. Audi have also fitted a sophisticated launch control system which enables the RS3 to achieve a 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds which puts it on par with Audi’s R8 supercar, but the RS3 is limited to a top speed of 155mph. As with the Audi TT RS, the RS3 also gets a Sport button which sharpens throttle response and also opens a flap in the exhaust system to intensify the engine’s offbeat note. The RS3 is not all about speed from a standing start, it also has a seventh gear for a more relaxed motorway cruising experience. Other clever features on the Audi RS3 include an oil pump that works when required and brake energy regeneration, which allows it to return a respectful 31mpg combined which is a healthy return for such a powerful engine. Cornering should be good too, as Audi’s handling engineers have spent month’s fine tuning this sporty hatch on Germany’s Nrburgring. They have increased stability by strengthening the front Macpherson struts and multi-link rear suspension and the ride height has been lowered by 25mm. 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/35 tyres at the front and 225/35 rubber at the rear have been added too. Also the Quattro system can send more power to the wheel with the most grip to help with the RS3 handling. It has to be said the RS3 will certainly stand out with its classic muscular look, with widened arches, modified front splitter with deep air inlets and a rear roof spoiler. The RS3 interior gets leather sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and an instrument panel that features extra dials for the turbo boost pressure, oil temperature and there is even a lap timer fitted to time how long it takes you to do the school run. Standard equipment on the RS3 is generous too, with features such as Xenon headlights with day time running lights, climate control and a rear parking camera.
