What is a Ford GT?
The Ford GT is a type of mid-sized engine supercar that was built by the Ford Motor company from the years 2003 to 2006. When it was first created, it was designed as a type of concept car that was designed only to build anticipation for Ford’s centennial anniversary year. It was supposed to be the show case car to revive the original heritage of Ford’s previous creations such as the famous Mustang and the Thunderbird.
The chief designer of the Ford GT was a man called Camilo Pardo who was the head of Ford’s design studio. He wanted to create the Ford GT as a more specified revival of the classic GT 40, one of Ford’s most famous cars in the 1960’s. In fact, the newer GT is sometimes confused for its inspiration, the GT 40 even today. The Ford GT received fairly positive response during its unveiling during the auto show in 2002. The positive review helped persuade the Ford Company to produce more of the car models in limited quantities for consumer purchase. The first production of the car in a more consumer targeted capacity was during 2004.
The Ford GT is an extremely high performance two seated vehicle with a very strong stylistic resemblance to its race car ancestor with the top quality speed performance to match it. The power plant is a super charged, mid mounted 5.4 liter V8 engine that produced over 550 horsepower (about 410 kW) and over 500 foot pounds of force (roughly 680 N-m)
During the Detroit Auto Show in 1995, the Ford GT 90 car was displayed as a predecessor to the Ford GT, though it was wider, longer, and around 3 inches taller than the original Ford GT 40. This resulted in the name being proposed for this new car as the Ford GT 43 rather than the Ford GT 90 which was what it ended up being known as.
These three cars (the Ford GT 40, the Ford GT 43/90 and the Ford GT) all have the same visual appearance and are related structurally, however, there is no similarity in engine power and construction with the Ford GT and its predecessor. The two are actually rather different apart from the similarity in acceleration power.
The Ford GT has been mimicked by some companies abroad, but none of them have been able to fully recreate the fantastic power and strong construction of the Ford GT. One company in particular came relatively close, creating a British version of the Ford GT. But the ingenuity of the Ford GT has been impossible to duplicate by any company.
There are many dealers that offer the Ford GT for sale. It can cost anywhere from $40,000 to $90,000 (USD) when they are new. Though, these prices can change drastically from place to place. Getting a Ford GT is perfect for anyone that likes powerful muscle cars. Anyone that enjoys a strong, American made car, the Ford GT is certainly the way to go.
