Honda entered Indian hatchback segment with Jazz almost a decade ago which was a pretty good car. Unfortunately, Honda forgot to consider a basic fundamental of this segment – reasonable pricing. The result was disastrous and Honda was compelled to take back the car after some time. But not giving up its plans for making a place in the lucrative hatchback segment, Honda came back and this time with a bang. Honda Brio was introduced in Indian market in 2011 and soon the car received a warm welcome in Indian automotive market and was soon among bestsellers of India. The car received a big applause in all expert as well as normal reviews.
As Honda Brio recently completed 2 years in India, the car continues to be a preferred option in hatchback segment. Currently, Honda Brio is available in Indian automotive market in a price range of Rs.4.16 – Rs.6.16 lakhs. The on-road price of the car may vary from state to state. Unlike Amaze and City, Brio is yet to receive its diesel motor and at present it is available in petrol version only all of which are powered by a 1.2-litre SOHC, i-VTEC engine that coordinates with a 6-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic transmission. The SOHC system enables the engine to deliver power worth 88PS along with an appreciable mileage of 19kmpl.
On design and style front, Honda Brio earns full marks. The Japanese car maker has left n stone unturned to give this car a distinct contemporary look. The car looks smart as compared to its main rivals along with several practical features and a strong imprint of Honda designing cues. The sharp crease lined across the side profile adds a new star to its appeal. A complete glass-hatch at the rear end are some of the most highlighting features of Honda Brio.
On interior front, Brio offers dual tone interiors along with several mind blowing comfort features like an integrated music system, AUX-in support, steering mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and power windows. Space is not a problem unless you are accommodating more than 4 adults; also the headroom might be a small problem for rear passengers. The boot space totals at 175-litres but its height might create slight problem in loading. Safety aspect of the car has been taken care of with features like i-SRS airbags for front passengers, ABS, EBD, G-Con based body structure and a few others.
