Hyundai, the Korean automobile manufacturer, has been a force to be reckoned with in the Indian markets for the last fifteen years. Their Santros, Accents, i10s and i20s are still very popular in India. Knowing the taste of the Indian driver, they had introduced a hatchback, the Hyundai Grand i10, in September 2013.
Korean cars are famous for their fluidic design and aerodynamic bodies and the Grand i10 is no exception. This hatchback, Grand i10, is slotted in between the i10 and the i20. The front has a large hexagonal lower grille, a swooping roof, a pair of sweptback head lamps and large fog lamps with black background (for higher versions). The rear is a shrunk version of i20. The rear side beauty is enhanced by the well designed tail lamps, a neatly integrated rear spoiler, a rear wiper and a pair of large rear bumper reflectors. The side molding of wide black belts and the roof rails make Grand i10 very attractive.
The interior is designed in a comfortable beige and black theme. A smart key and a push button starter, a motor driven power steering, a manual AC system, a gear shift indicator, a luggage lamp in the boot and tinted glasses are features inside. There is ample cabin space and the boot volume is 258 litres. For higher variants a leather wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio controls, power windows, electric folding rear view mirrors, a musical system with Bluetooth connectivity and internal memory and a cooled glove box are available.
There are ten variants of the Grand i10 in the market; the Era, the Magna, the sportz and the Asta – all with petrol and diesel versions.
The petrol variants have an 1197 cc, 80 bhp, 112 NM torque Kappa engines with a mileage of 18.9 kmpl. The diesel variants use 1120 cc, 71 bhp, 160 NM torque CRDi engine giving a mileage of 24 kmpl. In the later versions, Grand i10 1.2 Asta VTVT(O) and 1.1 Asta CRDi(O), more features like rear parking sensors, ABS, rear AC vents and airbags (optional) are incorporated. Transmission is automatic only for the Sportz AT 1.2 Kappa and the Asta AT 1.2 Kappa models.
The physical dimensions of the Grand i10 are 3765 mm length, 1660 mm width, 1520 mm height and 2425 mm wheel base. The prices range from Rupees 4.25 to 6.29 lakhs for various versions.
The Grand i10 has already won many awards including the IOCT award for €the Indian car of the year 2014′, €2013 ET Zig wheels compact car of the year’ award and the €Golden Steering Wheel 2014′ award.
