Mazda used cars like the RX-8 are a used vehicle in demand. For some reason this model which costs around $43,000cad new, deprecates quite a bit and making it a very popular sports car to buy used. Another popular feature that driving enthusiast love about this car is its rotary powered engine and its unique body design that sets it apart from any other car it competes against. Given the popularity and the high reliability ratings of Japanese motor companies, my research will be on the Mazda RX-8 as a used vehicle to look at.
The Mazda RX-8 is a four passenger sports car with reverse opening doors and this makes it easier than ever to get in and out of. The RX-8 cockpit features three round gauges that are for the engine systems and a center console that has the stereo and HVAC controls. All speedometer and engine gauges are easy to read and there is an option to add a navigation system with touch screen and a voice recognition platform system. It comes standard with six CD player, air conditioning, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, xenon headlights and a six speaker stereo system, just to name a few. I looked at RX-8 model from 2009.
Safety features that the RX-8 has are antilock brakes, stability control, front side air bags and front side curtain airbags.
I could only find one statistic for the Mazda RX-8’s fuel rating. The fuel statistic was for the automatic transmission and this was 12.8-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 9.2-litres, per 100km for highway driving.
There are two different engine stats for models from 2005 to 2010. The Mazda RX-8 uses a 1.3-litre rotary engine and depending on the transmission, the horsepower varies. The six speed automatic transmission had a 212 horsepower engine and this produced 152 pounds, per feet of torque. The six speed manual transmission had 232 horsepower and this also produces 152 pounds, per feet of torque.
Let’s look at some pros and cons of the Mazda RX-8 as a used vehicle:
1- 2005 models were given a “worse than average rating” for used car reliability from a leading online watch dog.
2- There is a manual transmission problem when shifting gears; it seems to grind at times.
3- There is a problem with the coolant level sensor acting up and not working properly.
4- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a “four star” rating for a frontal crash test done to the driver side.
I hope this helps if you’re looking at Mazda used cars like the RX-8.
