Mercedes-Benz used cars like there SL model got a new design back in 2003. This particular model is part of their sports car fleet and is just screaming to drive fast. In many ways if you can afford to buy one new, you’re probably doing very well in life, but that said, most people can’t afford to buy this beautiful car new, so they resort to purchasing a used one, a couple of years old. This vehicle is in a very competitive segment of the auto industry and so you know Mercedes will spend no amount of money to be the best. My research will be on the Mercedes-Benz SL class as a used sports car to look at.
When sitting inside a 2007 Mercedes SL you can’t help but notice the very expensive wood trim that’s place on the shifter and steering wheel. The SL comes in a two door convertible, with a retractable hard top as an option and both leather seats have all the functions to let you sit the way you want to. The GPS navigation system sits on the center console (this is not a touch screen) with an amazing 8-speaker Bose sound system which you control from there as well. It also comes with a six-CD changer and a DVD entertainment system.
There are several different fuel statistics for their various SL models to choose from. The SL 500 has a fuel rating of 15.3-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 9.9-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. The SL55 has a fuel rating of 17.5-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 10.9-litres, per 100km, for highway driving.
The 2003 SL 500 model has a V8, 5.0-litre engine and this produces 302 horsepower and the SL55 AMG has a supercharged V8, 5.5-litre engine and this has 493 horsepower. In 2004 they added the SL 600 and this has a turbo charged V8, 5.5-litre engine and this produces 493 horsepower. In 2005 they added the SL65 AMG to the line up and this has a turbo charged V12, 6.0-litre engine and this has 604 horsepower.
Let’s look at some pros and cons and cons of the Mercedes Benz SL as a used vehicle:
1- I found no crash tests results from the two leading organizations that do these ratings.
2- Repairs on the SL can be expensive.
3- There are minor electrical, engine and transmission problems, but nothing serious.
I hope this helps if you’re looking at Mercedes Benz used cars like the SL.
