The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. had showcased a face-lifted sedan, Sunny, in the 2014 Auto Expo. The Sunny, first introduced in 2011, is the largest selling model in Nissan’s Indian portfolio. Nissan has been continuously improving the design of the sedan and the new version, the tenth one, is expected to capture the imagination of prospective Indian buyers when it is launched. The new Nissan Sunny is likely to be in the show rooms shortly.
The latest version of Nissan Sunny has been brought through a cosmetic face-lift given to the body. The view from the front is now very attractive with the boomerang shaped head lamp fittings with halogen lamps deeply placed in the bumper. A bigger and broader grille with three slats and chrome inserts is more prominent now and gives an aggressive appearance. An improved bumper with single slat air dam has more chrome around the fog lamp fittings and at the bottom. The side profile has also been enhanced with folding body coloured mirrors housing turn lights and a lot of chrome around the windows. The new bumper at the rear has its bottom portion blackened out for a sportier look. Alloy wheel design has been changed to the Y-spoke type.
Some cosmetic changes are introduced inside the cabin also. The steering wheel is given a leather wrap, the central console a honey black finish and the leather seats a perforated style. The large leg space and shoulder space makes Sunny more comfortable and attractive than the other sedans in the market. Safety features include anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, dual front air bags and side air bags. Other features include an adjustable head rest, revised gear shift, chrome door openers, automatic climate control with digital display, 6.1€ touch screen DVD player with navigation and Bluetooth support.
There will be petrol and diesel versions. Petrol engine will be with 1500 cc, 98 bhp and 134 NM maximum torque and the diesel one with 1500 cc, 85 bhp and 200 NM maximum torque specifications. The car will have five speed manual gear boxes and will race to 100 kmph speed in 15.8 seconds. The expected fuel economy is 17 kmpl and 21.6 kmpl for the petrol and the diesel variants, respectively, under standard driving conditions.
External dimensions of the four door five seater Sunny will be 4425 mm long, 1695 mm wide, 1505 mm high with the wheel base 2600 mm and the ground clearance 165 mm.
With a basic price tag of Rs. 7,00,000 (petrol) and Rs. 10, 00,000 (diesel), stiff competition is expected from similar cars like the Toyota Etios, the Chevrolet Sail and the Tata Manza.
