The Japanese car maker Nissan Motors Limited launched its mid-size sedan Sunny in India in 2011. Much like Nissan’s previous cars like Terrano, Evalia and Micra, Sunny is also known for its low maintenance cost and, in addition, claims to be reasonably fuel efficient.
The 10th generation Nissan Sunny is based on the V (versatile) platform and looks very similar to the Micra. But then, Sunny has gone past Micra in many aspects like a better engine, bigger dimensions and a longer wheelbase. Nissan introduced a face lifted version of the Sunny in early 2014.
Sunny looks and feels like a big car and has a good road presence. The front grille with twin creases running on the bonnet looks elegant. The side profile is quite plain except for chrome door handles. The airy interiors of Nissan Sunny with an attractive colour theme can easily house 5 adult passengers. A large boot of 490 litres ensures that it is possible to carry a fair amount of luggage.
The Sunny is available with two engine options – petrol and diesel. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre HR15DE unit with 98 ps with an ARAI rated mileage of 16.95 kmpl, whereas, the diesel one is a 1461cc 4 cylinder engine which has a fuel efficiency of 21.64 kmpl and produces 86 ps maximum power. The engine is controlled by a five manual speed gearbox. The newly launched Sunny automatic CVT is even more efficient. The suspension is tuned in such a way that a smooth ride is ensured even on an uneven road.
Other than the features like keyless entry, keyless start-stop, steering controls and electrically operated outside rear view mirrors, safety features like twin airbags, Anti lock braking system, Electronic brake distribution and traction control are also included. An integrated music system, Auto AC with filter system, rear comfort fan, and roof antenna are available in the high end variants.
Nissan Sunny is available in an array of variants with different price options. The petrol variants are Sunny XE, XL, XV and Sunny Automatic. The Sunny XL and XV Diesel are the more costly diesel variants. Sunny is available in Bronze Grey, Blade Silver, Storm White, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and Brick Red colours. The price of Nissan Sunny ranges from Rs 5.9 lakhs to Rs 9.35 lakhs.
There are many popular names in this segment like the Tata Indigo XL, Toyota Etios, Ford Fiesta Classic, Renault Scala, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. The practical factors like efficient motoring, spacious cabin and the economical range of petrol and diesel engines have made Nissan Sunny a much loved car among potential buyers.
