The Porsche Heritage and A New Exciting Driving Experience

on

Over the decades Porsche has proved its status as a premium luxury sports car, as well as a race winning pedigree. With Porsche’s 911 being their longest running and most successful model produced over the years by the Porsche sports car company.

Porsche is a worldwide renowned brand, thanks to its racing pedigree and multiple race victories at all the high-profile racing circuits around the globe, like the Le Mans 24 Hour race in France and the Paris to Dakar Rally, which are by no means easy races to make your mark on.

Although this can also be attributed to Porsche’s recognisable styling, unique rear-engined design on many of their cars, the build quality, durability and reliability. The reliability of Porsche has always been a major reason why many owners love their Porsche’s or in most cases with existing owners likely to purchase again from this desirable luxury sports car manufacturer.

So with all this in mind it comes as little surprise to learn of the announcement that the new “Porsche Cayman R” has been chosen as the UK’s “Best Driver’s Car” for 2011 by one of the UK’s largest motoring magazines.

The Porsche Cayman R fought off stiff competition for the coveted award. There were eleven other luxury sports cars shortlisted for the final shootout, but there could only be one winner.

All the cars were put through a selection of strenuous and rigorous “three-day” tests which included road and race track circuits. These were chosen to test the car’s cornering ability, road holding, and a mix of second, third and forth gear corners, with a range of changes in both road camber and gradients. The roads that were chosen for the test were some of the most challenging B-roads found in the Midlands area of the British Isles.

Other contenders pitched against the Porsche Cayman R for this prestigious title were luxury sports cars which included; Mercedes CLS64 AMG, Jaguar XKR-S, Aston Martin Vantage S, Renault M©gane Trophy, Caterham Supersport, Lotus Evora S and the McLaren MP4-12C to name just a few of the Cayman’s rivals.

The overall award went to the Porsche Cayman R, but it’s worth noting the Caterham Seven Supersport came in worthy second (and the cheapest and lightest of all the contenders), next was the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S and then in forth was one of the Cayman’s siblings the awesome 911 GT3 RS.

So it just goes to show, a big price tag doesn’t always equal the best driving experience for your money.
